Care Tips

Here are some skin care recipes that you can drink,
or soak in!

Sun Punch

Recent research shows that both green tea and pomegranate juice help protect you from the damaging effects of sun exposure. Together they’re a tasty punch that everyone will enjoy all summer long.

3 cups boiling water
6 green tea bags
Sweetener, your choice to taste
1 cup pomegranate juice
Directions: In a teapot, pour boiling water over tea bags and steep for 1-1/2 minutes. Remove tea bags and stir in sweetener and cool. In a large pitcher, combine tea with pomegranate juice. Chill and serve over ice.

Soothing After Sun Bath

Here is a home-brewed soother for sunburn or heat rash. This bath is made using tepid, not hot, water. Stock up on these ingredients now and keep them on hand at home or pack them when you head out for a beach vacation. Great for both kids and adults!

To make the bath, brew the herbal tea and cool before running a bath. Bring a quart of water to a boil, remove from the stove and add dried herbs. You may use only one of the herbs on this list, or combine them in any way you like. Add ½ cup of dried herbs. Cover and steep at least 30 minutes.

Herbs: Use one or any combination of Calendula flowers, Plantain leaves, Oat straw or whole rolled oats, Peppermint or Green tea (loose or in bags, 1 teabag is about 1 teaspoon of herb)

After you’ve steeped the tea, strain out the herbs and discard. Now run a bath using tepid (not hot or cold) water, and add the strained herbal tea along with:

½ cup baking soda
½ cup aloe gel or juice
2 tablespoons honey
1 or 2 drops of lavender essential oil diluted into a small amount of whole milk or cream

Swirl ingredients around to mix them with the bath water.

Soak for at least 30 minutes. Pour bath water over your shoulders and face (eyes closed!) or any place that is burned or inflamed. Ahhhhhh! Instant relief!

If you find you only have some of the above ingredients, go ahead and make the bath using whatever you have on hand, it will still be very soothing to the skin. Or contact Take Care for help finding them!
